Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care has announced the news of a change in leadership within its foundation. After six years of dedicated service, Tamara Skov has stepped down as the foundation’s executive director. Her significant contributions have strengthened the organization, and she will be greatly missed by all the staff at VNHC.

Senior Health Expo set for July 20 Health screenings offered by professionals include blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar (fasting is required), dental, vision and depression. Other services include information on diabetes and nutrition, and experts will be on hand to get you started on an Advance Healthcare Directive, a legal document that gives you control over medical decisions in the event you become seriously ill or injured. read full article
On Friday, July 20, a Senior Health Expo will be held at the beautiful Dick DeWees Community and Senior Center, located at 1120 W. Ocean Ave. If you haven’t had an opportunity to see the new facility since it opened, this free local event is a great reason to check it out.
Starting at 9 a.m. there will be a wealth of information available for older adults who are interested in maintaining and improving their health. Mother’s Day Luncheon Co-Chairs Announced – Janet Lew and Pamela Geremia have been named co-chairs of Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care’s 10th annual Mother’s Day Luncheon, “Honoring and Remembering Our Mothers,” announced Tamara Skov, executive director of the Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care Foundation. The Mother’s Day Luncheon will begin with a silent auction at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 6 at the Coral Casino Beach & Cabana Club, 1260 Channel Drive in Montecito. At this year’s luncheon, Chris Toomey will remember his mother, Constance Toomey Smith, and Maryan Schall will be celebrated as the event’s Honored Mother. read full article
Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care Recognized for Helping Maintain County Trails – Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care has been recognized by the Santa Barbara Front Country Trails Multi-Jurisdictional Task Force for its ongoing leadership and dedication in helping maintain wilderness trails throughout the county. In 2010, VNHC tackled two Front Country Trails projects including the Jesusita Trail in May and the Rattlesnake Canyon Trail in July. Using standard firefighting tools such as the McLeod and Pulaski, nurses, physical therapists and administrators from the nonprofit worked until dark clearing water bars, restoring tread and removing overgrown vegetation that almost completely blocked the trails. read full article
Arlene Stepputat Named Volunteer Coordinator of Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care – Arlene Stepputat has been named Volunteer Coordinator of Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care and will be responsible for coordinating volunteers in Santa Barbara and the Santa Ynez Valley. A familiar face in nonprofit and volunteer circles, Stepputat was program director for the Alzheimer’s Association in Santa Barbara County. She also was an independent consultant for 13 years, offering workshops and training in addition to speaking nationally about service and volunteerism. read full article
Mary Pritchard Joins Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care Board - In her volunteer position on the board, local financial professional Mary Pritchard will devote her energy and expertise to help guide policy for VNHC. Mary is a certified public accountant and serves as the corporate controller for Santa Barbara-based Green Hills Software Inc. She received a bachelor’s degree from UCSB and a master’s degree in business administration from San Diego State University. She also holds a law degree from the University of Colorado School of Law at Boulder. read full article
Bobbie Rosenblatt Joins Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care Board - In her volunteer position on the board, retired school teacher and educational therapist Bobbie Rosenblatt will devote her energy and expertise to help guide policy for VNHC. She is a co-founder of the Women’s Council of Sansum Clinic, which annually presents a series of lectures on health-care issues. Additionally, she co-chaired the committee that brought digital mammography technology to Sansum Clinic. read full article
Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care announces Doctors of the Year honors at Annual Meeting – Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care honored two doctors with its Physician of the Year designation at its annual meeting Thursday, May 20 at Fess Parker’s DoubleTree Resort in Santa Barbara. Dr. Gregg Newman received his title from VNHC’s hospice team, and the home health team recognized Dr. Daniel Craviotto. Both doctors practice in the Santa Barbara area. read full article
Dan Greenwald, M.D., Joins Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care Board – In his volunteer position on the board, Dr. Greenwald will devote his energy and expertise to help guide policy for VNHC. He has been a member of the Hematology Oncology Medical Group at Cancer Center of Santa Barbara since 2007 and completed medical school at Stanford University, where he also did all of his post-graduate training, including internship, residency, chief residency and fellowship. read full article
Erika Buse Joins Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care Board – In her volunteer position on the board, Buse will devote her energy and expertise to help guide policy for VNHC. Employed by West Coast Asset Management, Buse coordinates investor relations and is responsible for developing and leading communication initiatives with the company’s clients and prospective clients. read full article

Q Mahjongg Card Tournament Benefits Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care – A card game tournament to benefit Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Santa Barbara Elks Lodge, 150 N. Kellogg Ave. in Goleta. Called the Q BreakTM Tournament, the fundraiser introduces Q MahjonggTM, a new nongambling card game. read full article
Lynda Tanner named president and CEO of Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care – Tanner served as chief operating officer for VNHC and joined the organization in 2008. She is a registered nurse and holds a master’s degree in nursing along with an extensive background in strategic and organizational planning, project management, and accreditation and regulatory experience. read full article

VNHC Nurse Receives Bialis Family Foundation Award – Glenda Ewasiuk, a 16-year veteran with Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care, recently received the prestigious Bialis Family Foundation Award for Nursing Excellence which recognizes an outstanding performance in nursing practice among professionals in Santa Barbara County while raising awareness and appreciation of the nursing field. read full article
CEO Eileen Bunning to Retire from Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care – Eileen Bunning, chief executive officer of Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care, will retire from her position effective Dec. 31, said Steve Lew, chairman of the VNHC board. Under Bunning’s leadership for the past eight years, the organization achieved extraordinary accomplishments including purchase and construction of the new 18-bed Serenity House. read full article
VNHC Diversity Outreach Coordinator to Serve on State Council – Lauren McElroy Herrera, diversity outreach coordinator for Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care, has been selected to serve on the California Council on Multicultural Health which assists in developing culturally competent policies and programs for California’s diverse racial and ethnic communities. read full article
